There’s only one road into the Fergana Valley from Tashkent — over the Kamchik pass, more than 2,200 metres up. Since the tunnel under the pass opened, winter closures are rare, though the road still winds through the mountains. It’s the shortest of the country’s longer-distance routes — about 3.5 hours.
